The egregious design choice stirred intense social debate, Redditor fury, and even a NY Times article. But after 60 long years, the Cap’n finally earned his fourth stripe. To announce the updated fit, we celebrated in a fashion befitting an iconic pop culture Captain - through ComicCon cosplay.
Just as Brie Larson was hitting the SDCC 2023 stage to promote her Captain Marvel character, we crashed the convention and deployed dozens and dozens of four-striped Cap’n cosplayers to steal the Captain spotlight.
We even hyped the new stripe by covering San Diego with mysterious FOUREVER movie posters.
